Getting started

Hello, my name is James Bergdoll, I am the newly hired Sports Turf Manager for the Elizabethtown Sports Park. I created this blog to keep everyone updated on the progress of the construction of the park.

I spent the last four years as Turf Manager at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, FL. IPCPB is a 200+ acre equestrian facility with 9 full sized polo fields and additional practice areas. The venue is host to the some of the most competitive and highest ranked polo in North America, particularly the USPA Gold Cup and US Open. We also hosted croquet tournaments and youth soccer events, most recently the AYSO National Games. Along with supervising all grounds and field maintenance, I also oversaw projects such as construction of a croquet lawn/putting green, field drainage projects, and irrigation renovation projects.

Originally from Madison, Indiana, I hold a Bachelors of Science in Turfgrass Science from Purdue University and am a member of the Sports Turf Managers Association. Previously, I also worked for the Baltimore Orioles Spring Training @ Fort Lauderdale Stadium, Purdue University Athletics @ Ross-Ade Stadium, the Indianapolis Indians @ Victory Field, the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex @ Purdue Univ. and LS Ayres Athletic Complex @ Hanover College. Visit my personal website for a quick look at my work history: www.jamesbergdoll.com

My education and experience with a variety of turf and grounds maintance facilites has prepared me to make an immediate impact on this project here in Etown. I am extremely excited to be involved with the Sports Park and being a part of the community. I look forward to seeing the community and visitors enjoying this Park upon completion for years to come. Thanks.
